BRULAGE SILENCIEUX, 2022

The installation entitled "BRULAGE SILENCIEUX" consists of three plaster casts of women's body parts, placed above slowly burning candles. The installation's symbolism is a powerful representation of sexual abuse. Sexual abuse comes in many forms. It can be momentary and sudden, or slow and long-lasting. The lit candles serve as a metaphor for the painful process of daily abuse that victims endure. The three plaster casts, each representing a different woman, are a poignant reminder of the pervasive nature of sexual violence against women. The use of plaster as a medium is particularly striking, as it underlines the physical, corporeal nature of abuse and the fragility of the body. Overall, the installation is a sobering commentary on the impact of sexual violence on women's bodies and psyches.
